This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi
October 24th, 2006
Good evening!
Well, the rain has gone (for now), and we are having some fabulous fall weather in the Coastal Bend. Just remember, anything below 70 for us is fall. Amen?
We have had an incredibly busy October here at MCC of Corpus Christi. But there are still more wonderful events headed our way, and many opportunities for you to get involved in the life of our church. So, read on, get involved, and be blessed!
FALL BACK!
Don't forget to set your clocks BACK one hour this Saturday night (the 28th)!
MCC OF CC OUT IN THE COMMUNITY
Lee Brame, Ruben Perez, and Pastor Danny represented MCC of CC at the Miracle Mile-no, not that Miracle Mile. The Miracle Mile is the 2nd Annual AIDS Walk sponsored by the Coastal Bend AIDS Foundation. 92 walkers were able to raise almost $2,000 for CBAF and their services. Way to go walkers!
Pastor Danny was invited to speak at Port Aransas High School on the subject of inclusivity and diversity, thanks to Claudia Locher, wife of MCC of CC member Dale Locher, and instructor for the class the Pastor was to address. However, it seems that the Pastor's planned appearance has caused some "concern" for some of the members of the Port Aransas community. So, rather than the planned talk on the 23rd, the Pastor interviewed with the Principal of Port Aransas High School at the request of the Superintendent of Schools for Port Aransas. The principal will speak with the Superintendent, and the Superintendent will render the final decision as to whether or not the Pastor will be allowed to address this class. We will keep you posted as to the decision of the Superintendent.
Last Sunday night, several MCC of CC members and friends participated in the Casino Night, sponsored by the Loving Spoonful and The National Association of Women In Construction. The benefit raised about $2,400.00, which will be distributed evenly between the two groups.
2006 ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The Annual Congregational Meeting of MCC of CC was held last Sunday, October 22nd. We passed a budget for 2007, as well as the one proposed bylaw amendment to our local bylaws.
We also elected Mary Jo Smith as our Alternate Lay Delegate. Mary Jo will complete the final year of a two-year term. It took 3 ballots, but we also elected the 3 2-year Board of Director positions. The congregation elected Annette Berdan, Tom Thrower, and Diana Downs. The Board met after the Congregational Meeting to vote on Board positions for the next year. Billie "Tazz" Harvey is the Vice-Moderator, Diane Creson is Treasurer, Diana Downs is the Clerk of the Board, Tom Thrower is Building and Grounds, and Annette Berdan is our At-Large member. Pastor Danny is the Moderator of the Board. Please make it a point to congratulate our new Board, as well as thank Dale Wulf for his service on the Board this past year. Keep the Board and our new Alternate Lay Delegate in your prayers as they serve God by serving our church in these capacities.
Pastor's Note: I am so proud that 38 of 69 members (55%) attended our Congregational Meeting-especially considering how nasty the weather was on Sunday. Thanks for your dedication to and support of MCC of CC!
DESSERT AUCTION PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 29TH
Our denomination-UFMCC-turns 38 this month. In honor of this event, we are planning a second Dessert Auction for the month of October. The proceeds of this auction will benefit UFMCC's Church Planting Fund. So, as we say at MCC of CC, bring your pocketbook and your sweet tooth-you won't regret it!
INQUIRER'S CLASS OCTOBER 29th
Not up for dessert on the 29th? How about learning more about our denomination as well as our local church, MCC of CC? If you are interested in learning more about us, or possibly becoming a voting member of MCC of CC, Pastor Danny will be conducting an Inquirer's Class starting around 12:30-ish in the Board Room.
FALL FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 31ST
Annette Berdan and Don Schiffke are working hard to make our First Annual Fall Festival a fun and fabulous event! The date of the festival is Halloween (October 31st). We need donations of small prizes, wrapped candy, materials to build games, ideas for games, and plenty of volunteers to staff those games and a Haunted House. If you are interested in volunteering for this sure-to-be-fun event, see Annette or Don for more details. Let's give our kids a safe and fun alternative to trick or treating on the streets! Oh, and don't worry-we plan to have food for our "adult trick or treaters" as well. PLEASE NOTE: WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS OF WRAPPED CANDY AND PRIZES.
OCTOBER IS HARVEST MONTH AT MCC OF CC!
During the month of October, MCC of CC will be focusing on a traditional fall theme of harvest, as we bring our offerings of food to support our Food Pantry. Our pantry client load continues to grow, and it is a privilege for us to be able to share the abundance with which God has blessed us with our sisters and brothers from the Coastal Bend area. During the month of October, we will have the area in front of the altar decorated with empty baskets and even a wash tub, so you can bring your offerings of food forward each Sunday. MCC of CC is a very generous congregation; and I am sure God will fill those baskets to overflowing through our giving. Remember Proverbs 22:9: "Blessed are the generous, for they share their bread with the poor."
