Hector Gutierrez writes:       Dear Pastors, Leaders, Member and Friends of MCC,   As a community of believers in the God of Life, I invite you to raise our prayers to this same Father/Mother God in whom we believe so that those who have lost their lives in Brazil (more than 300 according to the latest news reports) because of rains and flooding will be received by God into the Eternal Reign; and so that our solidarity will be made manifest with all those who have seen their belongings ruined and in some cases have lost everything.   There have been intense rains in the entire Southeast region of Brazil, especially in the States of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Hopefully, the weather will soon return to normal in this beloved country so that the number of people impacted by the floods and mudslides will not increase.   .       I hope that each one of our communities will pray especially with this intention.   Blessings,   Rev. Metropolitan Community Churches Tearing Down Walls.  Building Up Hope. MCC Headline News A Candidate's Perspective Principals of Pastoral Search   A new resource has been developed for our clergy looking to begin the pastoral search process. Few resources have been available offering practical help from the candidate's perspective. This resource was specifically developed to help our clergy know how to prepare, what to expect, general steps and principles, how to find available pulpits and so much more.   Rev. Dwayne Johnson, pastor of MCC Washington DC writes, "I reviewed the information, and having just gone through the process, must say that what you present here is very comprehensive and totally on target. This is great work and will be a very helpful tool!"   Thirty-eight clergy, Elders, seminary students and MCC staff were invited to share their insights which helped in the development of this resource. Rev. Elder Arlene Ackerman, MCC Resource Specialist for Church Development, authored this much needed resource. She brings 34 years experience as clergy in MCC including 19 years working for the denomination mentoring both churches and clergy through the pastoral search process.   Just a few months ago the MCC Protocol for Pastoral Search was posted on the MCC website under Resources, Local Church. Updating the pastoral search protocol for Pastoral Search Committees was the first step in assisting our churches through this critical transition. Today we announce the offering of the second part of the process. Practical help for clergy looking at entering the pastoral search process.   You can access this resource on the MCC website listed under Resources or click here. The second MCC Leadership Mentoring Retreat will be held next week, January 17 - 20, 2011.   The retreat is designed for individuals interested in serving MCC beyond the local level as clergy or as lay leaders.  Applications were received last fall, and 18 individuals have been invited to this year's retreat.  We take this opportunity to congratulate these individuals, hold them in our prayers, prayerfully support the retreat faculty, and for MCC during the coming days.  The 2011 MCC Leadership Mentoring Retreat Participants ~ Ms. Annette Billings Rev. Usher Training:  Thanks to everyone who attended this training.

Acolyte Training: We will be having training for all acolytes and anyone interested in being an acolyte on 6 February 2011 after service.  For more information, see Andy, Lisa or Russell Y.

Locher Food Pantry: The Locher Food Pantry needs your help.  Did you know that twice last month the pantry has run out of food?  It's true, we are now providing food to nearly 2000 people a month.  This month we are collecting toilet paper. So when you're out grocery shopping why not put some extra items in your shopping cart for the pantry and help us feed those in need.

"Gay Themed" Movie Night:   Join us the third Saturday starting this January and continuing each month, and enjoy a "Gay themed" movie.  Legally we can't tell you the name of the movie but this one stars Julie Andrews as a women pretending to be a man pretending to be a women.  Don't miss this classic!

Got Muscles? The Locher Food Pantry needs you on Wednesdays to help unload the food from the Corpus Christi Food Bank.  If you're interested be at the Church on Wednesdays at 10:00am.

Want to be part of the Worship Experience? We need singers, ushers, acolytes and people to help set up and clean up (Alter Guild).  See Pastor Ken or the Worship Team (Andy, Lisa and Russell Y.)

Sunday School: We are looking for adults who are will to help teach our young people.  If you're interested in the very important ministry, see Tom D, Mary Jo or Pastor Ken.

Bible Study! – The Bible Study is going strong! Wednesday Evenings at 6:30 PM folks will gather at the church to study the Bible.  Come join us to increase your knowledge of the scriptures.

The Christ-Centered Prayer group: A prayer group focusing on quiet listening is held on Fridays at 9am.  Yes, in the morning!!!  Come and increase your peace.

AA group: meets at the Church each Monday night at 8 PM

 

T shirts:  We are selling T-shirts for $10 each.  The sizes run from Small-3x to raise money for the Conference fund. See Andy or Pat. They make a great gift. We have 2 styles available, ask to see them!

MCC Calls the Nation to Prayer and Recommitment to Valuing All Life

Tearing Down Walls.   Building Up Hope. PRAYER ALERT Office of the Moderator Metropolitan Community Churches For Immediate Release:  08 January 2011   Moderator of Metropolitan Community Churches Calls the Nation to Prayer and Recommitment to Valuing All Life   As many already know, this morning Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona and several others were shot.  While stories are varying at this point, we know that Rep. Giffords was hosting her first "Congress on Your Corner" event at a local Safeway Store in northwest Tucson, offering constituents a chance to learn more about the workings of Congress.    Details from this horrific incident will not be sorted for some time, but what we can and must focus on as a nation of many creeds, colors, and cultures is the fundamental truth that all of life is scared regardless of political views, social or religious affiliations.    The present turmoil of our nation, as we repeatedly battle over issues of human equality like immigration reform, just and equal wages, and universal health care access --- things Rep. Giffords was known to champion --- must not become for any of us, no matter our ideological positions, justification for violence in any form.  Jesus' counsel was clearly and simply, "Love your enemies."     It is with that word in mind, that I call the members and friends of Metropolitan Community Churches and people of good will across this nation to prayer.  Join me in praying not only for Rep. Giffords and all who were shot, along with their families and friends, but also for the young man who committed this crime and his family.                To paraphrase one of our great prophets and martyrs, we must learn to live together         in peace, despite our differences, or we will simply be consigned to die together.   Rep. Giffords dedicated her life to the principles of justice and equality for all, things she really believed in.  Let us now follow her example and lift up the one thing all of us who call America home say we believe in:  the right to life and liberty for all God's children.   Join me in praying:     Source of all life, We give you thanks this day for the lives of those who daily use that gift of life in service to others. We especially remember now all those who lives were taken too soon from us in today's shooting, and pray for the miracle of recovery for all those still in surgery or under hospital care. Be with the families and friends of those targeted, and the family and friends of the aggressor, and surround them all in the light of your comforting presence. Bless the community that must now struggle with the trauma and terror of this day.
