Preparing for MCC's

43rd Anniversary in October

____________________________

Dear MCC Friend:

I love anniversaries -- they're filled with such possibilities!

Anniversaries offer opportunities for us to celebrate together. They're a time to pause and remember the journey we've shared together. And they call us to look forward and imagine the future.

On October 6, 1968 -- one year before the Stonewall Rebellion -- 12 people gathered in Rev. Troy Perry's living room in the Los Angeles suburb of Huntington Park, California, to worship, sing, pray, and share Communion. Metropolitan Community Churches was born!

Over the course of the past 43 years, MCC has grown into an international movement.

-- In Eastern Europe, we've become known as "The Human Rights Church."

-- Just this past weekend in Russia, MCC participated in the historic, first-ever LGBT conference in that country.

-- In Zimbabwe, children and orphans look to MCC to bring hope and help at ground zero for the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

-- In Jamaica, MCC's ministry is helping the LGBT community draw strength in the midst of a culture that has taken the lives of too many of our brother and sisters.

-- In Southeast Asia, MCC is responding to the call to plant new churches, despite government opposition.

-- In Uganda, LGBT people count on MCC to provide safe space from the relentless threats of persecution, bodily harm, and even death.

-- Across Latin America, the wind of God's Spirit is blowing as MCC's ministry is growing through new MCC groups, missions and churches.

-- And MCC's International Task Force is hard at work on behalf of all of us, exploring structures, systems and strategies to strengthen MCC's growing global ministries for decades to come.

Each year during October, MCC churches around the world celebrate MCC's anniversary by joining hands to receive a special, designated offering. This year's offering is designated for the vital work of our International Task Force as they prepare proposals for MCC's Governing Board to bring to our next General Conference.

I am so thankful for the response of so many churches to this year's anniversary appeal. You'll find a list of all participating churches -- MCC's Pacesetter Churches -- in the left column. You may want to check to be sure your church is listed.

If your church is not yet listed, I am extending a warm invitation today for your congregation to become a 2011 Fellowship Sunday Pacesetter Church!

Here's how to participate:

1.     2011 Pacesetter Churches agree to receive a special,

voluntary offering as part of our denomination's 43rd anniversary in October on a Sunday of your choosing. These offerings will support the important work of MCC's International Task Force and strengthen MCC's growing international ministry for decades to come.

2.     Simply write to me at

FellowshipSunday@MCCchurch.net and let me know

your church will participate in the 2011 Fellowship Sunday Offering Campaign.

3.     When you write, be sure to include your church's name

and location, your pastor's name, and the date you will receive your special Fellowship Sunday Offering.

4.     As soon as I hear from you, I'll add your church and

pastor to our 2011 Fellowship Sunday Pacesetters list -- recognizing their leadership in "setting the pace" for the future of MCC's ministry to our world.
