Rev. Nevin Wertenberger Rev. Nevin Wertenberger (December 2011) | We are saddened by the passing of Rev. Nevin Wertenberger, who retired 4 December 2011 as Pastor of MCC Ocala, Florida (USA). He was born in Atwater, Ohio (USA) in 1938. He died 26 January 2012. He opted for a green burial, which was 27 January. Rev. Wertenberger's memorial service will be at MCC Ocala on Saturday, 25 February 2012, at 10:30am. A potluck luncheon will follow in the church social hall. Rev. Dr. Jim Merritt reflected, "Rev. Nevin's ministry has touched the lives of MCC members and friends, not only in Ocala, but all over Florida. His commitment to MCC Ocala and to the people who worship there has been remarkable. I am truly thankful for his witness and for his friendship."

Rev. Wertenberger was former clergy with the United Methodist Church (UMC) before being ordained in MCC in 2000, where he served at St. Luke's MCC, Jacksonville, Florida. He was the first pastor of MCC Ocala...with initial outreach and support from Rev. Paul Whiting and Trinity MCC, Gainesville, Florida. For many years after surrendering his UMC credentials and before joining MCC, Rev. Wertenberger served those in recovery as a Certified Addictions Professional in Florida. He was a senior counselor in an outpatient drug treatment program, as well as a supervisor and counselor in several other drug treatment and mental health programs. Rev. Wertenberger received his B.A. (Cum Laude) from Youngstown State University (Ohio) in Philosophy and Social Studies and his M.Div. from Methodist Theological School (also in Ohio) with emphasis on Pastoral Psychology and Theology.

Rev. Elder Nancy Wilson stated: "We offer our love and support to Rev. Nevin's partner Carey, to his family and the MCC in Ocala, Florida. We give thanks for the life and witness of Rev. Nevin Wertenberger."
