This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi
February 27, 2007
Good afternoon!
Many times, the season of Lent is described as a time of reflection, yet forward movement in our lives. Well, this year at MCC of CC, we are taking forward movement to a whole new level! We encourage all our members and friends to be part of what is sure to be a very exciting-and yes, sometimes challenging-stage of our journey together as a community of faith.
MCC OF CORPUS CHRISTI IS MOVING!!!
The voting membership present at our Special Congregational Meeting last Sunday voted to purchase the building and property at 501 South Staples as our next church home! The plan at this time is for us to hold our first worship service in the new space on Easter Sunday, April 8th. Please see any Board member to let us know how you are able to help with this move. We especially need folks with trucks to help move some of our possessions to our new home. We will keep you updated as to the progress of this important transition. Thanks so much for being an important part of this next stage in our journey together as a community of faith!
"THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!" (ON WEDNESDAYS)
Join us for Bible Study Wednesday, February 28th, beginning at 6:30PM in the Community Board Room of the church. Pastor Danny will be leading a book study, "Thank God It's Friday," that takes a look at the seven last words from the cross. All are welcome!
TORTILLA HEAVEN COMING TO CORPUS CHRISTI
Grace Church and Vicarious Productions present "Tortilla Heaven" performed by Jade Esteban Estrada here in Corpus Christi on March 31st at 7:30pm at 1315 Craig Street. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students/seniors, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. You can email TortillaHeavenCC@aol.com for ticket information or contact Brian Moore at 658-2084.
"Tortilla Heaven" is a play based on family and tradition, and sheds a comedic light on the struggle that many second and third generation Mexican Americans go through with trying to hold on to their culture.
Each character has their own unique struggle with trying to find the balance between assimilation into the American culture while still holding true to the roots, culture, language and ultimately themselves. Estrada plays seven characters in the bilingual play in order to show the different types of people and personalities that make up a traditional Mexican family in today's society.
RECYCLE YOUR OLD CELL PHONE AND SUPPORT YOUR CHURCH!
Wondering what to do with that old cell phone you no longer use? Wonder no more! Bring your old cell phones to us and we will send them to be recycled! Not only will you be practicing good stewardship of the environment, you will also be helping raise money for our Conference Fund. Please see Andy Wilcox for more details.
DESSERT AUCTION SET FOR MARCH 18th
One of MCC of CC's favorite fundraisers returns Sunday, March 18th immediately following our morning service! So, bring your favorite "sweet treat," sweet tooth, and checkbook (we take cash, too!) . The proceeds of this event benefit the Delegates Fund (also known as the Conference Fund), which will be used to help pay the travel expenses of the Pastor and Lay Delegate to General Conference this July in Scottsdale, Arizona.
