This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi
March 13th, 2007
Good afternoon!
MCC OF CORPUS CHRISTI IS MOVING!!!
Last Friday marked the beginning of a new phase of our journey as a community of faith, as we closed on the property located at 501 South Staples. The energy is certainly positive and high around our move, and that is great! Already we have removed baseboards so carpet can be installed later this month, the electrical poles in the future sanctuary space have been removed, the locks have been changed, and the floors have been cleared in both the future sanctuary and fellowship/office/pantry areas. The plan this week is for the previous owner to remove his property, transfer the utilities into the name of the church, order the carpet and schedule the installation, and maybe even get some painting done this weekend!
Thanks to everyone who has stepped up in any way to help make our transition as smooth as possible. There are many ways you can be part of this exciting time in our church. Just check with any Board member to find out how!
"THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!" (ON WEDNESDAYS)
Join us for Bible Study Wednesday, March 15th, beginning at 6:30PM in the Community Board Room of the church. Pastor Danny will be leading a book study, "Thank God It's Friday," that takes a look at the seven last words from the cross. All are welcome!
TORTILLA HEAVEN COMING TO CORPUS CHRISTI
Grace Church and Vicarious Productions present "Tortilla Heaven" performed by Jade Esteban Estrada here in Corpus Christi on March 31st at 7:30pm at 1315 Craig Street. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students/seniors, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. You can email TortillaHeavenCC@aol.com for ticket information or contact Brian Moore at 658-2084.
"Tortilla Heaven" is a play based on family and tradition, and sheds a comedic light on the struggle that many second and third generation Mexican Americans go through with trying to hold on to their culture.
Each character has their own unique struggle with trying to find the balance between assimilation into the American culture while still holding true to the roots, culture, language and ultimately themselves. Estrada plays seven characters in the bilingual play in order to show the different types of people and personalities that make up a traditional Mexican family in today's society.
EASTER BASKETS
We are gearing up for our Annual Easter Basket Drive! Please bring "Easter Basket Fixin's", and place them in the box near the front door of the sanctuary. We will be assembling them shortly before Easter; so stay tuned for more details on this always-fun event!
