Young Adults Communion

The young adults (18-35 year olds) of MCC are hosting the first-ever Young Adult Retreat, 27-30 July 2011, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Led by young adults, this Young Adult Retreat will be an experience of meeting and connecting with peers, having spirited discussions, and working on strategies for empowering our young adults in their home churches and in MCC's around the world. The retreat will include workshops focused on utilizing technological tools for effective ministry and bringing sex-positive messaging back into the churches. There will be time for spiritual connections and fellowship, as well as planning our future as the next generation of MCC leaders.

Host Hotel

The host hotel is the Hyatt Place Ft. Lauderdale Airport North, 1851 SE 10th Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The group rate is $69 USD (+tax) per night for double occupancy. The hotel does feature complimentary internet and complimentary continental breakfast. In addition, the hotel has a complimentary airport shuttle that runs from 5:00am-12:00am (midnight). Host Church

The host church for the retreat is Sunshine Cathedral MCC, 1480 SW 9th Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Their website is SunshineCathedral.org, and their phone number is 1-954-462-2004. They have graciously agreed to provide lunch and dinner for retreat attendees on the Thursday and Friday of the retreat.

Young Adult Leadership Mentoring Retreat 2011

2011 DATES: 28 October starting at 3 pm to 31 October ending after lunch

 

Goals and Expectations

 

This retreat is designed for individuals under the age of 35 interested in serving MCC beyond the local level, as a volunteer or as a full-time vocation, as clergy or as lay leaders.  The retreat will be designed to include denominational leaders and staff and will provide registrants with an opportunity for discernment about vocation on a denominational or movement level with MCC.

 

Do you feel called to serve MCC beyond the local level, either as a volunteer or as a full-time vocation as clergy or as a lay leader?  Have you wondered if you're being called to be an Elder or serve as part of the MCC Global Staff?  Or do you want to understand more about the relationship of local church ministry and denominational/movement goals?  Do you want to help shape MCC's future?

 

If so, then maybe this retreat is for you.

Anticipated Location/Costs/Application Review

 

Applications will be evaluated and reviewed by the Senior Leadership Team.  Only 18 applicants will be accepted into this Retreat program.

 

We anticipate obtaining a grant to cover the costs of the retreat lodging and meals. However, participants will be expected to cover their travel costs.  The Retreat will be held at DaySpring Conference Center in Ellenton, Florida.  Applicants may plan to arrive either at the Sarasota airport and transportation to Ellenton will be arranged, or at the Tampa airport from which applicants may rent a car to drive to Ellenton.

 

If you are selected, it is important that you arrive in time for the 3:00pm start-up on 28 October and can leave Ellenton for the airport after lunch on 31 October.
