May Is Asian Pacific Island  Heritage Month!

The LGBT Christian movement is growing as fast in Asia and the Pacific as anywhere in the world today. MCC's Asia Pacific Initiative makes it possible for MCC's message of God's inclusive love and a progressive understanding of the gospel to be a major voice in shaping the future of this movement. Interest in MCC increases daily all over the Asian Pacific world and API is dedicated to supporting our existing faith communities there and being present for those who are desperate to hear our liberating message.

As we celebrate  Asian Pacific Island Heritage Month in the US, we lift up MCC's Asian Pacific Initiative.

Why Celebrate Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month?

We join in paying tribute to the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America's history and are instrumental in its future success.

May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month - a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. A rather broad term, Asian-Pacific encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, French Polynesia and Easter Island).

Like most commemorative months, Asian-Pacific Heritage Month originated in a congressional bill. In June 1977, Reps. Frank Horton of New York and Norman Y. Mineta of California introduced a House resolution that called upon the president to proclaim the first ten days of May as Asian-Pacific Heritage Week. The following month, Senators Daniel Inouye and Spark Matsunaga introduced a similar bill in the Senate. Both were passed. On October 5, 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed a Joint Resolution designating the annual celebration. Twelve years later, President George H.W. Bush signed an extension making the week-long celebration into a month-long celebration. In 1992, the official designation of May as Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month was signed into law.

The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

Litany: Here We Are On The Edge

We are here.
Dancing on the edge. The edge of the Pacific Rim, the ring of fire. The dangerous and delightful edge of spirituality and sexuality.

Here we will be. Living out loud. Loving out loud. Worshiping out loud. All the while knowing the danger of loving each other and the Christ.

Here we will not be. Silent. Afraid. Alone. Invisible. Nameless. Faithless. For we have strength by being in relation -ship with each other, with MCC and with the Divine.

Here we will sing the song of liberation. Here we will dance the dance of whole - ness. Here we will laugh the joy of salvation. Here we will drink and eat at Table, as our true selves.

Here we are. On the edge. It is ours to fill to over -flowing. With Passion. With Hope. With the Love of God through Christ and in Communion with Spirit. The Holy edge.

Here we are!

Amen.

Thanks and Congratulations

MCC
Thanks and Congratulations

Dear MCCers:

I want to express my thanks to all who worked so hard to make our very first Virtual Special General Conference a success!  To our staff, Members of the Governing Board, especially Rev. Onetta Brooks and Rev. Dr. Robert Griffin, thank you for your diligence and service, over and above this last 6 weeks.  Thanks to the lay delegates and clergy of MCC for your cooperation in the virtual business forums and the voting process itself.

Congratulations to Rev. Elder Hector Gutierrez and Rev. Elder Dr. Mona West!  We are so grateful for your openness to serve MCC in this way, in this time and place, and just by your gifts and commitment, enhancing and renewing the office of Elder for all of us.  Everyone who says yes to this responsibility brings something new and needed to our denomination.

I will install Rev. Elder Hector this Easter Sunday in Sao Paolo, Brazil, at the conclusion of the 10th anniversary celebration -- our service will be in Portuguese, Spanish, and English.  We expect to have persons from 4 or 5 countries, at least, in attendance.  I wish all of you could be present to feel the joy and hope that is here in Brazil this week!

Then, on 22 April, all the Elders and the Vice Chair of our Governing Board will gather at MCC Austin (Texas, USA) to install Rev. Elder Mona and to bless Rev. Elder Hector among his colleagues.  We will be welcoming back Rev. Elder Darlene from her sabbatical and have the opportunity to meet together, as Elders, and also with the Senior Leadership Team.

God is good and is our Provider in all things.

Grace and Peace,

Rev. Nancy Wilson

An Easter Invitation from

The Rev. Dr. Nancy L. Wilson

Office of the MCC Moderator

Easter@MCCchurch.net

Holy Week, Thursday morning

As You Prepare To Celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ...

...I am writing these words to you from Brazil, where I am spending Holy Week.

And I must tell you, the faith of our Brazilian brothers and sisters is joyous and contagious! As so often happens in MCC, I came to Brazil to minister -- but they have ministered to me and encouraged me.

In my own spiritual life, I am experiencing this same joy and excitement over this year's Easter Offering for Global Justice Campaign -- in fact, I don't know when I have felt so deeply and passionately about a denomination-wide Easter campaign as I have this year!

Out of my personal meditation and prayers during this Holy Week, I am writing to ask for your encouragement and help today -- in a very specific and urgent matter.

Let me explain...

This Easter, we have a God-given opportunity

-- together! -- to give birth to the Global Justice Institute, a joint project of Metropolitan Community Churches and The Fellowship of Affirming Churches.

___________________

Following the

Risen Christ is at the

very heart of our justice ministries!

___________________________________

That's why Easter -- the season of new life -- is the right time for us to birth the Global Justice Institute.

But birth always presents special challenges! Just as there are unique and necessary expenses at the birth of a newborn baby, the very same is true at the birth of a new organization.

Our goal is to raise $40,000 USD through the Easter Offering for Global Justice Campaign -- that's 30% higher than any previous Easter goal.

I know in my heart there's only one way we can reach this significant goal -- it's with your help!

Now you may be tempted to think that the goal is too high -- that your gift won't make much of a difference. Here's the God-given secret to reaching our goal this Easter:

_____________________

None of us can

do it all. But all of

us can do something!

_______________________

If you will do your part and give what you can, then God will do God's part! Just as Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes to feed the crowds, so God will multiply each of our gifts to perform an Easter miracle this year.

I truly believe that's the secret to reaching this year's $40,000 USD goal.

Here's what you can do:

After you've shared your tithes and offerings through your local congregation, I invite you to make a generous, over-and-above financial gift to this year's Easter Offering for Global Justice Campaign.

There are three ways you can make your personal gift. Won't you select one of these options and share your gift today?

GIVING OPTION #1:

Locate an MCC Pacesetter church in the left column and make your contribution through a local participating church.

GIVING OPTION #2:

To make an on-line donation: Click on one of the "Donate" buttons in this email, or visit the MCC Easter Offering web page and click on the "Donate" button.

GIVING OPTION #3:

Mail your donation via check or money order, made out to "Metropolitan Community Churches," to P.O. Box 50488, Sarasota, Florida 34232, USA. In the notation section, add "Easter Offering."

Thank you for your generosity and for your support of MCC's global ministry.

In closing, let me share these words with you as we together look to the empty tomb and the Risen Christ:

As we give boldly and with generous hearts,

know that we are forever an Easter people --

the Risen Jesus is the center of our faith,

the Resurrection is our hope,

    love is our motivation,

        peace is our hearts' desire,

            justice is our passion,

                and Alleluia is our song!

Grace and peace,

 +Nancy

P.S.  Won't you pray and seek God's guidance about your participation in this year's Easter campaign? Perhaps you'll feel led to donate $10, $25 or $50. Perhaps you've been blessed and are able to give even more -- $100, $500 or even $1000. If each of us will listen and respond to God's "still small voice," I know we'll -- together! -- reach this year's Easter goal.
