This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

December 19th, 2006

Good morning!
We are just days away from celebrating the coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In this "crunch time" of hustle and bustle (even around the church), may we all take time to reflect on why we celebrate Christmas, and may those reflections have a positive impact on how we schedule our time not only in this season, but also throughout the year.

CHRISTMAS NURSING HOME OUTREACH
This year, for the first time, MCC of Corpus Christi will be visiting 2 nursing homes, and providing companionship and small gifts to those residents who do not have family and/or friends who visit them.

Remember that TONIGHT at 6:30 PM, Rockport Coastal Care Residents will be enjoying food, music, and fellowship at their annual Christmas party. Due to the generosity of both members and non-members of our congregation, we were able to provide gifts for residents who normally do not have family or friends to visit them.

TOMORROW (Wednesday) at 2:00 PM, the residents of the Palms (on Everhart near Holly) will be enjoying their annual Christmas party. Friends and family of MCC of CC came through in a big way, as we provided gifts for residents who normally do not have family or friends to visit them.

We have been invited to attend both events. So, if you would like to attend either event, please call the church office at 882-8255 for driving directions.

MCC OF CC CAROLING
We are going to be singing out all over the Coastal Bend this year! Join us Wednesday, December 20th at 5:30PM, as we meet at the church before heading out to sing at various member homes as well as Padre Behavioral Hospital.

Also, on Saturday, December 23rd, we will be caroling at The Palms at 2:30PM. From there, we will head over to Pastor Danny and Richard's home for food and fellowship before heading to Rockport Coastal Care for caroling beginning at 7:00PM. Everyone is welcome to these events!

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR
The MCC of CC Crafters have been working hard since August, preparing all kinds of great Christmas gifts for your shopping pleasure (and having a lot of laughs along the way, as well). Make sure to check out our fantastic homemade gifts this Sunday after church! That's right! The MCC of CC Crafters are "bringin' it to you" by setting up a table of our crafts for sale during Social Hour each Sunday through December 24th after church. So, bring your pocketbook or wallet and your Christmas List. Where else can you find great food, fellowship, AND do your Christmas shopping without the hassles of mall traffic?

AND NOW, due to the generosity of a friend of MCC of CC, we now have one of those fabulous Cracker Barrel rockers to auction off. Tickets are $1.00 each, or 6 for $5.00. We will be drawing the winning ticket Sunday evening after the evening service.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES POSITION OPEN

11-21-06

November 21st, 2006

Good morning!

In this week of Thanksgiving, may we all be thankful for God's abundant blessings to us. May we also remember to share our abundance with others so that they may experience God's light and love in their lives. Let's keep everyone in our prayers for travel mercies, and may we remember those who may spend this holiday alone. In fact, if you know of such a person, why not invite them to your home to share a meal? You will both be blessed, and when we share of our blessings with others, God smiles. In other words, it's a good thing all around.

Good morning!

Well, there is definitely a slight "nip" in the air this morning as a cold front has arrived. Since it is supposed to be a bit chilly this evening, too, this would be the perfect time to curl up with your Bible or favorite devotional, and spend some "quality time" with God. Maybe as part of that time, you can begin to discern how God would have you to participate in the life of your church. There's always something going on at MCC of CC. Just read on and see!

This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

November 7th, 2006

Good evening!

Today is Election Day! Hopefully everyone voted, because voting is just one more way to practice good stewardship of the privilege of having a voice in the election of our government's representatives. And you know the old saying, right? "If you don't vote, don't...complain."

MCC OF CC OUT IN THE COMMUNITY
This week we are spotlighting one of our MCC of CC members who is out volunteering in the community. The following article is from the CASA Chronicle:

Billie Harvey was sworn in as a CASA in March, 2006. By coincidence, Billie had seen a CASA brochure while at work. Her love of children, and her interest in advocating for those who can't speak for themselves, brought her to us. Billie is a military retiree who currently is employed by the U.S. Navy as Director of Bachelor Housing. She is dedicated to her church and currently serves as clerk of the Board of Directors. She also has volunteered on base working with children at the Boys and Girls Club, as well as working with church youth groups. As if she isn't busy enough, Billie will be completing her Bachelors degree in 2007. She has a natural way of relating to children, and has a way of teaching when communicating with them. Billie enjoys the challenges of teenagers and took a case with three teenagers who regularly run away. She always seems to be right behind them and is quick to get them settled down until one of them decides to take off again. Her open mindedness, together with her willingness to listen, makes her a great mentor for the kids. Thanks Billie! Thank you for all your loving work!

Way to go, Billie!

INQUIRER'S CLASS NOVEMBER 12th
If you are interested in learning more about us, or possibly becoming a voting member of MCC of CC, Pastor Danny will be conducting an Inquirer's Class starting around 12:30-ish in the Library, this Sunday, November 12th.

The next Craft Fair work session is Friday, November 17th, 7PM, at the church. We may change the location; so stay tuned for further developments! Come on out, join the fun, socialize, learn a new skill, and raise money for the ministries of MCC of CC! Everyone is welcome!

This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

October 31st, 2006

Good morning!

Happy Halloween everyone! As we head into the month of November-a month which normally emphasizes thankfulness-let us be thankful for all of God's abundant blessings to us. We have so much to be thankful for here at MCC of Corpus Christi. For example:

THANKS, THANKS, AND MORE THANKS!
October was an extremely busy month for MCC of CC! Thanks to you, we raised almost $500.00 for the American Heart Association, $335.00 for UFMCC's Church Planting Fund during 2 separate Dessert Auctions, collected food for our Food Pantry, chilled and grilled with the folks at Get Happy, and sold Christmas Crafts at the First United Methodist Church. We even managed to elect a new Alternate Lay Delegate, approve a 2007 budget, and elect 3 new Board members at our Annual Congregational Meeting! So, however you were able to participate in any or all of these activities, know that you are both loved and very appreciated!

And it is not quite over yet.

FALL FESTIVAL TONIGHT!!
Annette Berdan and Don Schiffke are working hard to make our First Annual Fall Festival a fun and fabulous event! Let's give our kids and our community a safe and fun alternative to trick or treating on the streets! Oh, and don't worry-we plan to have food for our "adult trick or treaters" as well. The festivities kick off around 5:30, so come on out and have some fun with us!

MCC OF CC OUT IN THE COMMUNITY
As we reported last week, Pastor Danny was invited to speak at Port Aransas High School on the subject of inclusivity and diversity. Thanks to Claudia Locher, wife of MCC of CC member Dale Locher, and instructor for the class for issuing this invitation. However, it seems that the Pastor's planned appearance has caused some "concern" for some of the members of the Port Aransas community. So, rather than the planned talk on the 23rd, the Pastor interviewed with the Principal of Port Aransas High School at the request of the Superintendent of Schools for Port Aransas. The principal will speak with the Superintendent, and the Superintendent will render the final decision as to whether or not the Pastor will be allowed to address this class. As of today, a decision in this matter has not been made.

BUT, where one door closes (for now), another opens.

Pastor Danny was guest speaker for a Social Work class at TAMU Kingsville this past Monday. He addressed issues of growing up gay in conservative Western Kentucky, issues facing the lgbtq communities today, as well as the importance for continuing dialogue and education on these issues. The Pastor told the class he believes that fear-based ignorance is at the root of many of our world's challenges, and that the only way to address some of these issues is through education.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR
The next Craft Fair work session is Friday, November 3rd, 7PM, at the church. We may change the location; so stay tuned for further developments! Come on out, join the fun, socialize, learn a new skill, and raise money for the ministries of MCC of CC! Everyone is welcome!

TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS
Join us next month as we head to the Rose on Sunday, November 12th for King Ranch Chicken and an afternoon of football!

THURSDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY
The Thursday Night Bible Study Group has started watching and discussing a DVD series on "Lost Christianities." This study explores the diversity of Christian practices during the first few centuries after Jesus' ascension, as well as some of the writings that did not make into the Bible. Everyone is welcome to attend these weekly study groups, so come on out! PLEASE NOTE: The location for this class has been changed to Pastor Danny and Richard's home due to technical difficulties at the church. Call the church for directions to their home if you would like to attend this study. Don't worry-we'll make room!

This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

October 24th, 2006

Good evening!

Well, the rain has gone (for now), and we are having some fabulous fall weather in the Coastal Bend. Just remember, anything below 70 for us is fall. Amen?

We have had an incredibly busy October here at MCC of Corpus Christi. But there are still more wonderful events headed our way, and many opportunities for you to get involved in the life of our church. So, read on, get involved, and be blessed!

FALL BACK!
Don't forget to set your clocks BACK one hour this Saturday night (the 28th)!

MCC OF CC OUT IN THE COMMUNITY
Lee Brame, Ruben Perez, and Pastor Danny represented MCC of CC at the Miracle Mile-no, not that Miracle Mile. The Miracle Mile is the 2nd Annual AIDS Walk sponsored by the Coastal Bend AIDS Foundation. 92 walkers were able to raise almost $2,000 for CBAF and their services. Way to go walkers!

Pastor Danny was invited to speak at Port Aransas High School on the subject of inclusivity and diversity, thanks to Claudia Locher, wife of MCC of CC member Dale Locher, and instructor for the class the Pastor was to address. We will keep you posted as to the decision of the Superintendent.

Last Sunday night, several MCC of CC members and friends participated in the Casino Night, sponsored by the Loving Spoonful and The National Association of Women In Construction. The benefit raised about $2,400.00, which will be distributed evenly between the two groups.

2006 ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The Annual Congregational Meeting of MCC of CC was held last Sunday, October 22nd. We passed a budget for 2007, as well as the one proposed bylaw amendment to our local bylaws.

We also elected Mary Jo Smith as our Alternate Lay Delegate. Mary Jo will complete the final year of a two-year term. It took 3 ballots, but we also elected the 3 2-year Board of Director positions. The congregation elected Annette Berdan, Tom Thrower, and Diana Downs. The Board met after the Congregational Meeting to vote on Board positions for the next year. Billie "Tazz" Harvey is the Vice-Moderator, Diane Creson is Treasurer, Diana Downs is the Clerk of the Board, Tom Thrower is Building and Grounds, and Annette Berdan is our At-Large member. Pastor Danny is the Moderator of the Board. Please make it a point to congratulate our new Board, as well as thank Dale Wulf for his service on the Board this past year. Keep the Board and our new Alternate Lay Delegate in your prayers as they serve God by serving our church in these capacities.

Pastor's Note: I am so proud that 38 of 69 members (55%) attended our Congregational Meeting-especially considering how nasty the weather was on Sunday. Thanks for your dedication to and support of MCC of CC!

DESSERT AUCTION PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 29TH
Our denomination-UFMCC-turns 38 this month. In honor of this event, we are planning a second Dessert Auction for the month of October. The proceeds of this auction will benefit UFMCC's Church Planting Fund. So, as we say at MCC of CC, bring your pocketbook and your sweet tooth-you won't regret it!

INQUIRER'S CLASS OCTOBER 29th
Not up for dessert on the 29th? How about learning more about our denomination as well as our local church, MCC of CC? If you are interested in learning more about us, or possibly becoming a voting member of MCC of CC, Pastor Danny will be conducting an Inquirer's Class starting around 12:30-ish in the Board Room.

FALL FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 31ST
Annette Berdan and Don Schiffke are working hard to make our First Annual Fall Festival a fun and fabulous event! The date of the festival is Halloween (October 31st). We need donations of small prizes, wrapped candy, materials to build games, ideas for games, and plenty of volunteers to staff those games and a Haunted House. If you are interested in volunteering for this sure-to-be-fun event, see Annette or Don for more details. Let's give our kids a safe and fun alternative to trick or treating on the streets! Oh, and don't worry-we plan to have food for our "adult trick or treaters" as well. PLEASE NOTE: WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS OF WRAPPED CANDY AND PRIZES.

OCTOBER IS HARVEST MONTH AT MCC OF CC!
During the month of October, MCC of CC will be focusing on a traditional fall theme of harvest, as we bring our offerings of food to support our Food Pantry. Our pantry client load continues to grow, and it is a privilege for us to be able to share the abundance with which God has blessed us with our sisters and brothers from the Coastal Bend area. During the month of October, we will have the area in front of the altar decorated with empty baskets and even a wash tub, so you can bring your offerings of food forward each Sunday. MCC of CC is a very generous congregation; and I am sure God will fill those baskets to overflowing through our giving. Remember Proverbs 22:9: "Blessed are the generous, for they share their bread with the poor."

If you missed the cookout at Get Happy last Sunday, you missed a great time! Several people were out, read information about our church (and we left plenty more pamphlets at the bar), and enjoyed Don Schiffke's grilling, as well as John Allen's beans and potato salad. And of course we can't forget Mary Jo Smith's homemade cookies! And you won't believe this-when we announced we were ready to serve, some of the bar patrons requested silence while we prayed over the food-something we "Christians" forgot. Join us next month as we head to the Rose on Sunday, November 12th.

2006 ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The 2006 MCC of CC Annual Congregational Meeting will be held Sunday, October 22, 2006 at 1:30PM. We will also be hosting a potluck dinner following the morning worship. This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

October 10th, 2006

Good morning!

Hey! There's supposed to be a cold front on the way to Corpus! Maybe we will get those falling temperatures after all! Of course, we shouldn't hold our breath for the palms to start changing colors, though.

But maybe that is a blessing! After all, who has time to rake leaves (palm or otherwise) with everything that is going on at MCC of CC? Read on, get involved, and be blessed!

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR
The MCC Crafters staffed a booth at the First Annual First United Methodist Craft Fair this past Saturday and Sunday. We raised about $225.00, and made some new friends, as well! The winner of the quilt raffle was Lilia Moreno-who bought only ONE ticket! Ms. Moreno told MCC of CC'er Richard Lofstrand that she had faith that she would win the quilt. Seems that faith does more than move mountains, huh?

The next Craft Fair work session is Friday, October 20th, 7PM, at the church. We may change the location; so stay tuned for further developments! Come on out, join the fun, socialize, learn a new skill, and raise money for the ministries of MCC of CC! Everyone is welcome!

This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

October 3rd, 2006

Good afternoon!

Ahhh, October! Falling leaves and falling temperatures! OK, maybe in the Northeast. But at MCC of CC, we are just heating up for a very busy October of worshipping God, building community, and offering hope. Read on to see how you might become involved in the life of your community of faith and be blessed!

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR
Preparations for the 2nd Annual Christmas Craft Fair are now in full tilt! Through the Quilt Raffle, we have already raised $186.00! Thanks for your early support! If you would like to join in the fun, the next meeting will be Friday, October 6th at 7PM. This session will be held at Pastor Danny and Richard's home. So contact them for driving instructions if you need them. We will be taking our crafts to The Arts and Crafts Fair at The First United Methodist Church on Shoreline on Saturday, October 7th from 9:00AM-4:00PM. This is a wonderful opportunity for our church to be a part of our community, meet new people, and raise funds for MCC of CC all at the same time! See you there!

MCC OF CC OUT IN THE COMMUNITY
MCC of CC member Kimberly Price is walking in the Heart Walk for the American Heart Association in October. We will be having a dessert auction on Sunday, October 8th and the proceeds will go towards the Walk. The money that is raised locally stays here. Please see Kimberly (or e-mail at: kimberly.price@dchstx.org) if you would be interested in making a dessert for this auction and/or if you would like to make a tax-deductible donation. The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. Let's support Kimberly in this wonderful endeavor, and let's getting out there and supporting our community!!!
CONGREATIONAL FORUM OCTOBER 15th
Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 15th. We will be hosting a Congregational Forum to give members of MCC of CC an opportunity to ask questions of our six Board candidates, and one Alternate Lay Delegate candidate. This meeting is also the time to ask questions about our proposed 2007 budget and the one proposed bylaw amendment that we will be presenting to the congregation.

2006 ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The 2006 MCC of CC Annual Congregational Meeting will be held Sunday, October 22, 2006 at 1:30PM. We will also be hosting a potluck dinner following the morning worship. We will be electing 3 2-year Board positions, as well as 1 1-year Alternate Lay Delegate position. Additionally, we will be approving a 2007 budget for the church, and voting on one proposed bylaw amendment. If you are a member of MCC of Corpus Christi, please make plans to attend this very important meeting. We will also be having a fabulous potluck dinner before the meeting, so please see Diane Creson, Dale Wulf, Don Schiffke, or Mary Jo Smith to sign up to bring your favorite culinary masterpieces!

TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS
On Sunday, October 15th, we will be at Get Happy grillin' and chillin'. Yep, we know-menu change! As long as it is good ol' church cookin', though, we know it's all good! Amen? It looks like we are headed to The Rose on November 12th, too! See Pastor Danny for more details!

FALL FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 31ST
Annette Berdan and Don Schiffke are forming a committee to plan a wonderful Fall Festival for our church and neighborhood children. The planned date of the festival is Halloween (October 31st). PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE A MEETING OF THE FALL FESTIVAL COMMITTEE THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8th, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE DESSERT AUCTION. Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting and share their recently purchased desserts!

Our 25th Anniversary Committee is busy making our 25th Anniversary in February 2007 an event that you will not want to miss! We have already booked Rev. This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

September 19th, 2006

Good afternoon!

Well, it is ALMOST fall-like weather, today! We have been blessed with rain lately, and now we are being blessed with sunshine and fabulous temperatures! These two factors combine to produce wonderful growth and refreshment to the plant life in the Coastal Bend (not to mention hopefully raising the reservoir level). Check out everything going on in your church-MCC of Corpus Christi-and consider ways you might grow and be refreshed spiritually by becoming actively involved in the life of your church.

WALK FOR RECOVERY
September is Recovery Month. Last Sunday, MCC of CC members Clayton Hill and Richard Lofstrand, along with Pastor Danny, joined about 75 other folks from the community to support the 1st Annual Recovery Walk. It was great to see so many people out so early on a beautiful Saturday morning to support the recovery community. And, in case you missed it, our own Mr. Hill was quoted in the Sunday Caller Times article covering the event!

BREAKFAST AT MCC OF CC
Come join us for breakfast Sunday, September 24th from 9AM to 10:30AM. For only $2.00, you can get a great breakfast, as well as enjoy fun and fellowship with your sisters and brothers. So come fill up with food, then join us for worship as we fill up with the Holy Spirit!

INQUIRER'S CLASS
This Sunday, September 24th, at 12:30 PM, Pastor Danny will be conducting an Inquirer's Class in the church library. So, if you are interested in learning more about our denomination, community of faith, or maybe even interested in becoming a member of MCC of CC, this is the class for you!

TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS
Our first "Takin' It To The Streets" event at the Hidden Door was a huge success! Over 20 MCC'ers mixed and mingled at the Hidden Door last Sunday. We chilled and we grilled-AND we handed out a lot of business cards and church flyers to bar patrons. A good time was had by all, AND we raised over $100.00 in donations from the meal!

On Sunday, October 15th, we will be at Get Happy serving King Ranch Chicken. Why not bring your own King Ranch Chicken recipe to this outreach event and join the fun? Hey! How about a King Ranch Chicken Cook Off? See Pastor Danny for more details!

This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

September 12, 2006

Good evening!

All this rain we have been getting lately reminds me of an old song called, "There Shall Be Showers of Blessing." God blesses us in so many ways, and providing us with opportunities for service, fun, and fellowship with our sisters and brothers in Christ is just one of those ways. Check out what is going on in the life of your church, and then get involved. Get soaking wet with those showers of blessing from being an active part of YOUR community of faith-MCC of Corpus Christi.

This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

August 29, 2006

Good afternoon!

Fall is shaping up to be busier than ever for MCC of Corpus Christi. As you will see from this week's information, we are developing more of an outward focus while maintaining opportunities for building community within our church as well. Read on, get involved, and be blessed!

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR
Preparations for the 2nd Annual Christmas Craft Fair are now in full swing! If you would like to join in the fun, the next meeting will be at the church Friday, September 8th at 7PM.

Applications for these positions will be available Sunday, September 3rd. 2006. GOSPEL CONCERT LABOR DAY WEEKEND!
Robert Blake and The Anointing from Resurrection MCC, Houston Texas will be bringing their gift of ministry through music to MCC of CC. Labor Day weekend. The concert is free; however, we will be taking a love offering on Saturday night for The Anointing. Rev. Dr. Sharon Bezner from Houston, Texas will also be preaching for us Sunday, Sept. 3rd. Don't miss these Spirit-filled events, and be sure to tell your friends!

TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS
"Takin' It To The Streets" is getting ever closer to becoming a reality! The plan is for us to host a cookout/barbeque at one of the local bars each month over at least the next 3 months. We are scheduled to be at The Hidden Door on Sunday, September 17th beginning at 4:00PM. On Sunday, October 15th, we are going to be at Get Happy. If you would like to volunteer to be part of this ministry, please contact Pastor Danny. Let's put on those new MCC t-shirts, get out there and serve our community, and let them know how great God is! Let's take the good news of God's life changing love for all people to the streets of our community!

FALL FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 31ST
Annette Berdan and Don Schiffke are forming a committee to plan a wonderful Fall Festival for our church and neighborhood children. The planned date of the festival is Halloween (October 31st).

Stay tuned for more details!
