LEADERSHIP PULSE

Rev. Elder Mona West is pleased to announce that the new Policy and Process for Discipline of Ministry Leaders in MCC has been implemented. The new process, along with the necessary forms, can be
downloaded at http://mccchurch.org/how-we-work/governance/judiciary-process/.

Some of the key elements that are different about this new process include a 'Pre-Complaint' stage in which efforts are made to mediate conflict before engaging the Judiciary Process and the inclusion of lay ministry leaders in MCC.

The Board of Elders appointed a Judicial Review Team (JRT) in 2008. As part of their work, the JRT surveyed everyone who had been involved in the Disciplinary Process from 2005-2008 for input and to identify concerns. They also reviewed policies and processes of other denominations.

Under the guidance of Rev. Elder Darlene Garner, the JRT submitted a revised process to the Governing Board for approval in 2011 with a May 2012 implementation. An International Judicial Pool was appointed and
trained under the direction of Rev. Elder Mona West in April and May of 2012.

The Council of Elders and Governing Board would like to express their gratitude for the time and effort of those who served on the Judicial Review Team:
Rev. Kharma Amos
Rev. Paulette Armstead
Rev. Robert Clark
Rev. Terri Echelberger
Rev. Elder Darlene Garner
Rev. Elder John Gill
Rev. Dr. Robert Griffin
Jude Litzenberger
Rev. Marty Luna-Wolfe
Rev. Jim Merritt
Ray Nutter
Rev. Gale Rawson
Rev. Clay Witt
And for the time and willingness of those who have agreed to be appointed to the International Judicial Pool:
Cathy Alexander
Rev. Paulette V. Armstead
Rev. Andy Braunston
Gail M. Bumala
Jaco du Plessis
Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston
Rev. Ken Ehrke
Rev. Paul Eknes-Tucker
Rev. Alycia Erickson

Rev. Gavin Ward

MCC-ERS IN THE NEWS

Mel White's Holy Terror

Rev. Mel White's new book, Holy Terror: Lies the Christian Right Tells Us to Deny Gay Equality, is now available. "A must read, consciousness raising book" -- John Shelby Spong.

From Rev. Mel White to MCC: "Stranger at the Gate was written to give hope and healing to those who suffer religion-based oppression. Holy Terror was written to help cut off that suffering at its source. If ever we needed to help this country see how holy terrorism works, that time is now. Holy Terror exposes the Christian right and gives us positive, practical ways to end their campaign to deny us our rights, reverse the advances we've made, and drive us back into our closets."

MODERATOR CORNER

Rev. Elder Dr. Nancy Wilson will be traveling to Germany and Romania in early June with Rev. Pat Bumgardner of The Global Justice Institute. They are scheduled to meet with United Nations representatives. Nancy will also be conducting an ordination, speaking at a University, and visiting our office in Romania. You can keep up with her trip via her facebook page.

Record-Breaking Registration Numbers!

WE HAVE WONDERFUL NEWS TO SHARE! The response to the 2013 General Conference promotional registration rate has far exceeded our expectations, hence our technical difficulties last week prior to the previous 30 April deadline. We are currently at 745 people registered! This number represents a 62% increase in the number of people registered in the same time period for the 2010 General Conference. This is just one more indication this conference will be the largest conference MCC has ever had!!!

Thank you for all who have already registered and helped us exceed this goal! If you haven't registered yet, here's your last chance at the special promotional rate...

Save Almost 50% When You Register TODAY!

TODAY is the last day to register for General Conference at the low promotional rate of $250 USD (reduced to $200 USD if you are SSI/SSDI, a student, or age 65+.). Save up to $200 USD off the regular registration price if you register by the EXTENDED deadline date of 7 May 2012 (11:59pm US Hawaii / 5:59am 8 May 2012 US Eastern / 9:59am 8 May 2012 UTC/GMT).

Visit the 2013 General Conference website for more information: http://believe.mccchurch.org.

If you prefer to register by mail, click here to download a mail-in registration form. Please note that mailed registration forms must be postmarked by 8 May 2012 for the promotional rate to be honored.

ATTENTION CHURCH LEADERS: Don't have a pastor or lay delegate yet but want to take advantage of the low promotional rate? You can! Register using a name like "MCC Church Name Pastor" or "MCC Church Name Lay Delegate." When you elect your pastor or lay delegate(s), email the name change to Jennifer Justice (Conferences@MCCchurch.net). It is as simple as that!

General Conference Promotional Rate
Extended to Monday, 7 May 2012

Good news!  We had great response and very strong volume in the registration system as the deadline approached for the special promotional rate for General Conference XXV!

Better news!  We want to make sure that everyone who was attempting to register during that time period has been able to get into the system and complete registration, so we are extending the deadline for the special low promotional rate through Monday, 7 May 2012!

Take advantage of this deal that is nearly half off the regular registration rate for General Conference, which promises to be our largest conference yet!

If you have difficulty registering online, please do not hesitate to call Carlos Chavez (1-310-489-3899) or Jennifer Justice (1-213-447-2953), and they will help you get registered over the phone. You can also email them at Conferences@MCCchurch.net.

EMERGING MINISTRIES

The Office of Emerging Ministries is developing articles and resources to assist  in our mission to develop fully inclusive congregations. Here are 3 new ones:

We hope you have considered using/incorporating the Top 10 Ways to Make Your Church More Trans-Inclusive we included in the previous issue of Headline News.

Micro-inequity refers to the ways in which individuals are "either singled out, or overlooked, ignored, or otherwise discounted" based on an unchangeable characteristic such as race or gender. A micro-inequity generally takes the form of a gesture, different kind of language, treatment, or even tone of voice. It is suggested that the perceptions that cause the manifestation of microinequities are deeply rooted and unconscious. The cumulative effect of microinequities can impair a person's performance in the workplaceclassroom, or church, damage self-esteem, and may eventually lead to that person's withdrawal in many forms.

The Opportunity Agenda, in their landmark report Recommendations drawn from Public Opinion and Discourse on the Intersection of LGBT Issues and Race, takes a close look at the roles ethnic and new media are playing today in both perpetuating and challenging negative stereotypes of LGBT people of color.

MCC-ERS IN THE NEWS

Congratulations to Lynn Jordan, one of the founding members of and historian at MCC San Francisco (California, USA), and Rev. Dr. Penny Nixon, MCC clergy, as two new additions to the LGBT Religious Archives Network (RAN) Oral History Project.

MCC clergy Rev. Jane Emma Newall, in her role as chair of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America's Clergy Advisory Board, participated in drafting an Open Letter on Family Planning with a multi-faith group guided by the Religious Institute.
