This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

October 31st, 2006

Good morning!

Happy Halloween everyone! As we head into the month of November-a month which normally emphasizes thankfulness-let us be thankful for all of God's abundant blessings to us. We have so much to be thankful for here at MCC of Corpus Christi. For example:

THANKS, THANKS, AND MORE THANKS!
October was an extremely busy month for MCC of CC! Thanks to you, we raised almost $500.00 for the American Heart Association, $335.00 for UFMCC's Church Planting Fund during 2 separate Dessert Auctions, collected food for our Food Pantry, chilled and grilled with the folks at Get Happy, and sold Christmas Crafts at the First United Methodist Church. We even managed to elect a new Alternate Lay Delegate, approve a 2007 budget, and elect 3 new Board members at our Annual Congregational Meeting! So, however you were able to participate in any or all of these activities, know that you are both loved and very appreciated!

And it is not quite over yet.

FALL FESTIVAL TONIGHT!!
Annette Berdan and Don Schiffke are working hard to make our First Annual Fall Festival a fun and fabulous event! Let's give our kids and our community a safe and fun alternative to trick or treating on the streets! Oh, and don't worry-we plan to have food for our "adult trick or treaters" as well. The festivities kick off around 5:30, so come on out and have some fun with us!

MCC OF CC OUT IN THE COMMUNITY
As we reported last week, Pastor Danny was invited to speak at Port Aransas High School on the subject of inclusivity and diversity. Thanks to Claudia Locher, wife of MCC of CC member Dale Locher, and instructor for the class for issuing this invitation. However, it seems that the Pastor's planned appearance has caused some "concern" for some of the members of the Port Aransas community. So, rather than the planned talk on the 23rd, the Pastor interviewed with the Principal of Port Aransas High School at the request of the Superintendent of Schools for Port Aransas. The principal will speak with the Superintendent, and the Superintendent will render the final decision as to whether or not the Pastor will be allowed to address this class. As of today, a decision in this matter has not been made.

BUT, where one door closes (for now), another opens.

Pastor Danny was guest speaker for a Social Work class at TAMU Kingsville this past Monday. He addressed issues of growing up gay in conservative Western Kentucky, issues facing the lgbtq communities today, as well as the importance for continuing dialogue and education on these issues. The Pastor told the class he believes that fear-based ignorance is at the root of many of our world's challenges, and that the only way to address some of these issues is through education.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR
The next Craft Fair work session is Friday, November 3rd, 7PM, at the church. We may change the location; so stay tuned for further developments! Come on out, join the fun, socialize, learn a new skill, and raise money for the ministries of MCC of CC! Everyone is welcome!

TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS
Join us next month as we head to the Rose on Sunday, November 12th for King Ranch Chicken and an afternoon of football!

THURSDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY
The Thursday Night Bible Study Group has started watching and discussing a DVD series on "Lost Christianities." This study explores the diversity of Christian practices during the first few centuries after Jesus' ascension, as well as some of the writings that did not make into the Bible. Everyone is welcome to attend these weekly study groups, so come on out! PLEASE NOTE: The location for this class has been changed to Pastor Danny and Richard's home due to technical difficulties at the church. Call the church for directions to their home if you would like to attend this study. Don't worry-we'll make room!

This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

October 24th, 2006

Good evening!

Well, the rain has gone (for now), and we are having some fabulous fall weather in the Coastal Bend. Just remember, anything below 70 for us is fall. Amen?

We have had an incredibly busy October here at MCC of Corpus Christi. But there are still more wonderful events headed our way, and many opportunities for you to get involved in the life of our church. So, read on, get involved, and be blessed!

FALL BACK!
Don't forget to set your clocks BACK one hour this Saturday night (the 28th)!

MCC OF CC OUT IN THE COMMUNITY
Lee Brame, Ruben Perez, and Pastor Danny represented MCC of CC at the Miracle Mile-no, not that Miracle Mile. The Miracle Mile is the 2nd Annual AIDS Walk sponsored by the Coastal Bend AIDS Foundation. 92 walkers were able to raise almost $2,000 for CBAF and their services. Way to go walkers!

Pastor Danny was invited to speak at Port Aransas High School on the subject of inclusivity and diversity, thanks to Claudia Locher, wife of MCC of CC member Dale Locher, and instructor for the class the Pastor was to address. We will keep you posted as to the decision of the Superintendent.

Last Sunday night, several MCC of CC members and friends participated in the Casino Night, sponsored by the Loving Spoonful and The National Association of Women In Construction. The benefit raised about $2,400.00, which will be distributed evenly between the two groups.

2006 ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The Annual Congregational Meeting of MCC of CC was held last Sunday, October 22nd. We passed a budget for 2007, as well as the one proposed bylaw amendment to our local bylaws.

We also elected Mary Jo Smith as our Alternate Lay Delegate. Mary Jo will complete the final year of a two-year term. It took 3 ballots, but we also elected the 3 2-year Board of Director positions. The congregation elected Annette Berdan, Tom Thrower, and Diana Downs. The Board met after the Congregational Meeting to vote on Board positions for the next year. Billie "Tazz" Harvey is the Vice-Moderator, Diane Creson is Treasurer, Diana Downs is the Clerk of the Board, Tom Thrower is Building and Grounds, and Annette Berdan is our At-Large member. Pastor Danny is the Moderator of the Board. Please make it a point to congratulate our new Board, as well as thank Dale Wulf for his service on the Board this past year. Keep the Board and our new Alternate Lay Delegate in your prayers as they serve God by serving our church in these capacities.

Pastor's Note: I am so proud that 38 of 69 members (55%) attended our Congregational Meeting-especially considering how nasty the weather was on Sunday. Thanks for your dedication to and support of MCC of CC!

DESSERT AUCTION PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 29TH
Our denomination-UFMCC-turns 38 this month. In honor of this event, we are planning a second Dessert Auction for the month of October. The proceeds of this auction will benefit UFMCC's Church Planting Fund. So, as we say at MCC of CC, bring your pocketbook and your sweet tooth-you won't regret it!

INQUIRER'S CLASS OCTOBER 29th
Not up for dessert on the 29th? How about learning more about our denomination as well as our local church, MCC of CC? If you are interested in learning more about us, or possibly becoming a voting member of MCC of CC, Pastor Danny will be conducting an Inquirer's Class starting around 12:30-ish in the Board Room.

FALL FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 31ST
Annette Berdan and Don Schiffke are working hard to make our First Annual Fall Festival a fun and fabulous event! The date of the festival is Halloween (October 31st). We need donations of small prizes, wrapped candy, materials to build games, ideas for games, and plenty of volunteers to staff those games and a Haunted House. If you are interested in volunteering for this sure-to-be-fun event, see Annette or Don for more details. Let's give our kids a safe and fun alternative to trick or treating on the streets! Oh, and don't worry-we plan to have food for our "adult trick or treaters" as well. PLEASE NOTE: WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS OF WRAPPED CANDY AND PRIZES.

OCTOBER IS HARVEST MONTH AT MCC OF CC!
During the month of October, MCC of CC will be focusing on a traditional fall theme of harvest, as we bring our offerings of food to support our Food Pantry. Our pantry client load continues to grow, and it is a privilege for us to be able to share the abundance with which God has blessed us with our sisters and brothers from the Coastal Bend area. During the month of October, we will have the area in front of the altar decorated with empty baskets and even a wash tub, so you can bring your offerings of food forward each Sunday. MCC of CC is a very generous congregation; and I am sure God will fill those baskets to overflowing through our giving. Remember Proverbs 22:9: "Blessed are the generous, for they share their bread with the poor."

10/18/06

Good morning!

Rain, rain, and more rain on the way! Well, whether you like to get out in the rain (and some folks do), or partake of indoor activities on rainy days-MCC of Corpus Christi has something for you. So read on, get involved, and be blessed!

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR

Come on out, get some exercise, meet some new people, and support a great cause!

Monday, October 23rd, Pastor Danny has been invited to speak at Port Aransas High School on the subject on inclusivity and diversity. Thanks to Claudia Locher, wife of MCC of CC member Dale Locher, and instructor for the class the Pastor will be addressing, for making this event possible!

TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS

If you missed the cookout at Get Happy last Sunday, you missed a great time! Several people were out, read information about our church (and we left plenty more pamphlets at the bar), and enjoyed Don Schiffke's grilling, as well as John Allen's beans and potato salad. And of course we can't forget Mary Jo Smith's homemade cookies! And you won't believe this-when we announced we were ready to serve, some of the bar patrons requested silence while we prayed over the food-something we "Christians" forgot. Join us next month as we head to the Rose on Sunday, November 12th.

2006 ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The 2006 MCC of CC Annual Congregational Meeting will be held Sunday, October 22, 2006 at 1:30PM. We will also be hosting a potluck dinner following the morning worship. This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

October 10th, 2006

Good morning!

Hey! There's supposed to be a cold front on the way to Corpus! Maybe we will get those falling temperatures after all! Of course, we shouldn't hold our breath for the palms to start changing colors, though.

But maybe that is a blessing! After all, who has time to rake leaves (palm or otherwise) with everything that is going on at MCC of CC? Read on, get involved, and be blessed!

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR
The MCC Crafters staffed a booth at the First Annual First United Methodist Craft Fair this past Saturday and Sunday. We raised about $225.00, and made some new friends, as well! The winner of the quilt raffle was Lilia Moreno-who bought only ONE ticket! Ms. Moreno told MCC of CC'er Richard Lofstrand that she had faith that she would win the quilt. Seems that faith does more than move mountains, huh?

The next Craft Fair work session is Friday, October 20th, 7PM, at the church. We may change the location; so stay tuned for further developments! Come on out, join the fun, socialize, learn a new skill, and raise money for the ministries of MCC of CC! Everyone is welcome!

The 2006 MCC of CC Annual Congregational Meeting will be held Sunday, October 22, 2006 at 1:30PM. We will also be hosting a potluck dinner following the morning worship. We will be electing 3 2-year Board positions, as well as 1 1-year Alternate Lay Delegate position. Additionally, we will be approving a 2007 budget for the church, and voting on one proposed bylaw amendment. If you are a member of MCC of Corpus Christi, please make plans to attend this very important meeting. We will also be having a fabulous potluck dinner before the meeting, so please see Diane Creson, Dale Wulf, Don Schiffke, or Mary Jo Smith to sign up to bring your favorite culinary masterpieces!

TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS
On Sunday, October 15th, we will be at Get Happy grillin' and chillin'. Yep, we know-menu change! As long as it is good ol' church cookin', though, we know it's all good! Amen? It looks like we are headed to The Rose on November 12th, too! See Pastor Danny for more details!

FALL FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 31ST
Annette Berdan and Don Schiffke are forming a committee to plan a wonderful Fall Festival for our church and neighborhood children. The planned date of the festival is Halloween (October 31st). PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE A MEETING OF THE FALL FESTIVAL COMMITTEE THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8th, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE DESSERT AUCTION. Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting and share their recently purchased desserts!

25TH ANNIVERSARY EVENTS
Our 25th Anniversary Committee is busy making our 25th Anniversary in February 2007 an event that you will not want to miss! We have already booked Rev. Elder Troy Perry as our keynote speaker, and are in the process of putting together an absolutely fabulous concert for that weekend, as well. Stay tuned as we begin to publish our schedule of events over the coming months!

THURSDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY
Our Thursday Night Bible Study Group has been having a lot of fun discussing the book of Ruth over the past few weeks. On October 12th, we plan to undertake a longer series on "Lost Christianities." This study explores the diversity of Christian practices during the first few centuries after Jesus' ascension, as well as some of the writings that did not make into the Bible. Everyone is welcome to attend these weekly study groups, so come on out!

COMING THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8th:
We've all heard the saying about the "patience of Job," right? But just how patient was Job, really? The answer may surprise you! Join us this Sunday as Pastor Danny shares a message about "When Bad Things Happen to Good People," based on the lectionary reading from the book of Job.

Smiles for the Journey
"Many folks want to serve God; but only as advisors."

See you in church!
