This Week at MCC of Corpus Christi

January 17th, 2007

Good morning!
Well, winter has definitely arrived in the Coastal Bend! Rather than hibernating, however, the congregation of MCC is busy scheduling uplifting events that help us to share God's life-changing love for all people with a wide variety of people. Read on, get involved, and be blessed!

THURSDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY
The Thursday Night Bible Study Group is back on track! Join us again at Pastor Danny and Richard's on January 17th, as we continue our study of Lost Christianities. PLEASE NOTE: for this week, we are meeting on Wednesday the 17th.

DESSERT AUCTION THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 21st
After a brief time of socializing in our Fellowship Hall this Sunday, we will be conducting what has become one of MCC of CC's favorite fundraisers-the Dessert Auction! Tom Dollard takes presenting items for bid to a whole new level! So, bring your sweet tooth and your checkbook. Proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the Conference Fund, which is used to pay conference expenses for our Pastor and Lay Delegate.

AND SPEAKING OF THE CONFERENCE FUND.
Wondering what to do with that old cell phone you no longer use? Wonder no more! Bring your old cell phones to us and we will send them to be recycled! Not only will you be practicing good stewardship of the environment, you will also be helping raise money for our Conference Fund. Please see Andy Wilcox for more details.

GRACE CHURCH TO START MEETING AT MCC OF CC SUNDAY AFTERNOONS
Christian Garrett, former pastor of St. Paul's United Church of Christ is staring a new work, "Grace Church." This group will be holding services beginning this Sunday, January 21st at 3:00 p.m. in our sanctuary. Grace Church is an open and affirming Christian community of faith where everyone is welcome. If you know anyone who cannot make morning or evening services on Sundays, tell them about Grace Church!

UNITY MARCH CELEBRATION JANUARY 31st
The Diversity and Ethnic Awareness and Training Committee of Del Mar College invites everyone to their 2nd Annual Unity March celebration. The festivities kick off at 12:30 p.m. at Richardson Performance Hall, with the march starting at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Danny Spears will be offering the invocation for this event.

VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY AT ROCKPORT COASTAL CARE CENTER
Some folks may remember that, due to the generosity of friends and members of MCC of CC, we were able to provide Christmas presents to some of the residents at Rockport Coastal Care Center and The Palms Nursing Home in 2006. Some of us also had a lot of fun caroling at these facilities, as well.

The staff at Rockport Coastal Care Center has asked if MCC of CC would be interested in helping provide the desserts for their Valentine's Day Party on February 8th. Well, of course we said, "Sure!" So, if you are able to provide a dessert for this event, please see Mary Jo Smith for more details.

25th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Our 25th Anniversary celebration is just around the corner, and have we got a party planned for you! The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach, Saturday February 17th, beginning at 6:00 PM. Come join us for a fabulous buffet dinner, cash bar, silent auction, dance, and musical entertainment provided by a quartet from the Sweet Adelines, and the San Antonio Men's Chorus! On Sunday, February 18th, UFMCC's Executive Director, Rev. Dr. Cindi Love will be bringing the message, AND conducting a workshop after service at 1:00PM. The total cost for the entire weekend is only $35.00 each for members of MCC of CC, and $40.00 each for non-members. Please see Diane Creson to make alternative payment arrangements, if needed.
